Is James Hardie siding worth the extra cost over vinyl?
If you plan to stay in the home more than a few years, usually yes. Hardie costs more up front but holds paint far longer, will not warp or melt, resists fire, and returns more at resale. If budget is the deciding factor we will give you honest side-by-side numbers rather than steering you.
What is ColorPlus and do I need it?
ColorPlus is Hardie’s factory-applied, baked-on finish. It resists fading and chalking much longer than paint applied on site and comes with its own finish warranty. Primed-and-painted is cheaper up front; ColorPlus usually wins over a fifteen-year horizon in this climate.
Does Hardie siding work on older Portland homes?
Very well. HardiePlank can mimic the original narrow wood lap profiles common on older Portland and Vancouver homes, so the house keeps its character while losing the rot problem that came with the original cedar.
Can James Hardie be installed over my existing siding?
We do not recommend it and Hardie does not favor it. Layering over old siding hides existing damage, complicates flashing, and leaves you without a verified drainage plane. We tear off to the sheathing so we can see and correct what is underneath.
